Fikret Öztürk was born in Nizip in 1949. He completed elementary school in Nizip, passed the Boarding Teacher’s School exam and entered Haruniye Elementary School. A hardworking student, he was chosen by the school and sent to Izmir Bornova Higher Teacher Education School. One year after, he moved to Istanbul’s Çapa Higher Teacher Education School. He graduated from the Physics Department in the Faculty of Science in three years after a four-year Higher Teacher Education School experience. He was appointed as a Physics Teacher to Akşehir Teacher School. Then, he worked at Gaziantep Education Institute, Islahiye High School, Mersin Tevfik Sırrı Gür High School, and Mersin Education Institute. In 1980, he founded Öztürkler Petrol Limited Company obtaining fuel oil and mineral oil dealerships of Oil Distribution Companies. Öztürkler Petrol Limited Company became Turkey’s most-selling and biggest mineral oil and fuel distributor due to extensive efforts. He moved to Istanbul from Mersin in 1992 and founded Opet Petrolcülük A.Ş., a domestic fuel distribution company. In late 2002, Koç Holding became a partner in 50 percent of Opet, which has focused on infrastructure investments since its foundation. Thanks to the synergies arising from joining forces with Koç Group, Opet increases its market share and station network in the industry on a day-to-day basis, acting with the target and principle of becoming consumers’ first choice in Turkey’s fuel distribution industry. Opet Chairman Fikret Öztürk is a role model, a good businessman and family man demonstrating one of the best collaboration examples with Nurten Öztürk, his wife, and his three children. His life philosophy has been guided by “honesty and hardworking approach.”
